WE-Tech AK74UN Gas Blowback Rifle

DAMN… this looks good. If they fixed the hop-up/accuracy issues that their earlier guns suffered from, it’ll be so cool to skirmish with.

Still waiting for their MP5 since VFC’s MP5 doesn’t stop firing (not without modifications) after the last round. Pity.

VFC H&K MP5A2 Navy GBBR

Finally! A gas blowback variant of the H&K MP5! This time it’s from VFC.

More than likely a must get for me. THere’s scuttlebutt that WE-Tech will also release an MP5 sometime this year. Good time to be an MP5 fan. :)

WE-Tech G39C Gas Blowback Rifle

Haven’t been airsofting so I haven’t been keeping up with airsoft news and lookee what we have here. WE-Tech has introduced a gas blowback version of the Heckler & Koch G36C. Well, they call it G39C for obvious licensing issues.

As per usual with WE-Tech, the gun strips and has magazine capacity like the real thing. Knowing WE-Tech, fps should be in the 350-400 range. They have also released a torture test video:

Problem is though, it’s not really about being able to fire full-auto for 18 straight magazines. Having owned 2 of their rifles (an Colt M4A1 and a FN SCAR-L), the main issue for me has always been:

  1. shot-for-shot consistency and accuracy since each magazine has only 30 rounds like the real thing. I actually like the 30 round magazines, the problem is I can’t hit anything beyond 10 meters (sometimes less)
  2. magazines that don’t hold gas well nor offer (again) shot-for-shot consistency. Sometimes it feels like not enough gas is being transferred from the magazine to the gun, especially when firing on semi-auto quickly

Now in the text accompanying the video they claim that the hopup is based on their Springfield Armory M14 rifle and Knight’s Armament Company PDW hopup, which they also claim to be ‘excellent’. Problem is these guns haven’t been released long enough for long-term feedback on their accuracy.

This will be a wait and see for me. Besides, I’m still hoping for a Heckler & Koch MP5 :) .

Magpul AFG2

Magpul has gone back and refined their AFG (Angled Foregrip) and introduced it as the AFG2:

The AFG2 is a slim line design that is shorter in overall length and width compared to the AFG1. Smaller size allows for compatibility with a wider variety of rail systems, rail covers, and accessory mounts.

The original AFG sometimes got in the way of some tactical lights and accessories. I think of it as an AFG that has gone through a shot of Botox. A comparison of the AFG and AFG2 can be found on Soldier Systems. Smaller and sleeker might mean it’ll fit better on smaller-sized Asian hands (like mine). :D

King Arms KAC SR-16 URX E3 SBR

King Arms has just announced the release of their latest AR-15 variant AEG. It’s the tongue twisting KAC SR-16 URX E3 SBR. Rolls off the tongue doesn’t it? Let me decipher: Knight’s Armament Company (KAC) SR-16 Upper Receiver Extension (URX) E3 Short Barreled Rifle (SBR).

More pics can be found here.

So what’s unique about the real KAC rifle? Well, it has ambidextrous controls (bolt release, safety and mag release), a full length (11.5 inch) free-floating RIS, is very light (compared to other AR-15s) and is overall a very high quality rifle.

So what about the King Arms (KA)? It basically replicates all the external features of the real deal. The only thing different is the muzzle brake. The real deal comes with a KAC TTB (Triple Tap Brake) while the KA comes with the standard AR-15 birdcage flash hider.

I really like this design. It has the ‘weekend warrior’ look I prefer. KA has also made a sort of working bolt catch feature. It’s not to slam the bolt forward though, it’s just for adjusting the hop-up. KA’s AEGs have also been receiving decent reviews so this shouldn’t be any different. I can also share magazines with my other AR-15s.

Now for the minuses. It’s an AEG ie no recoil of any sort. It will sound like a sewing machine at full auto-fire. It also probably only fires 350fps out of the box (I prefer 400fps). And lastly, I already have 4 other AR-15 style rifles in my collection. That’s right. I have the Tokyo-Marui Colt M4A1 (heavily modified into a FN M16A4 Commando), a G&P M4 VLTOR Commando gas rifle, a WE Colt M4A1 Commando gas rifle and a JG H&K 416.

Plus and most importantly, I will probably pay a premium for this AEG. Pity. Very tempting. Very tempting indeed.
