It’s like Hobby Boss is on a path of revenge for being 20 years behind Tamiya and Hasegawa hahaha…

I do hope some of these are decent kits though. Here’s hoping.

He’ll fight for freedom wherever there’s trouble!

So G.I.Joe (specifically the ‘A Real American Hero‘ line) was a great part of my childhood. Who wouldn’t like articulated army men. And the vehicles! Man… good times!

The XP-14F Sky Striker with its pilot Ace was the first ever Joe vehicle and figure I ever owned so they hold a special place in my memories. Now Hasbro has announced they will re-issue it as part of 30th Anniversary G.I.Joe! HELL YEAH!

According to HissTank.com, the re-issue Sky Striker will be improved in some ways:

  • Single seater
  • More cockpit detail than the original, including a HUD, sidestick, ejection handles for the seat(inspired by the F-14A/B Tomcat ejection seats, the F-14D has NACES seats which look different), et al, hence lack of room for 2 figures
  • Molded in light gray with white trim on the wings
  • Black vertical stabilizers(the artwork on the vintage version had black stabilizers, and the early prototypes had them too, but the final production of the vintage version had white vertical stabilizers)
  • Engine nozzles have the overall shape of the F-14A/Original Skystriker’s P&W TF30 engines, but surface detail reminiscent of the F-14B/D’s F110 GE400 engines
  • Wings seem reinforced compared to the original(look at the underside near the body)

More pictures can be seen HissTank.com.

Pity about the single seater configuration but it’s still a must buy for me!

Kinetic EA-6B Prowler

Kinetic Models has released production pictures of their 1/48 EA-6B Prowler. It also happens to be up for pre-order already at Lucky Models.

Features for this kit:

Markings:
VAQ-140 Patriots

Decal designed by FightTown Decals
Decal printed by Cartograf S.r.l., Italy

Parts: 230+

Model Features:

  • Folded wing and full wing span option
  • ICAP III configuration
  • Surface details with recessed panel lines
  • AN/ALQ-99 Jamming pods
  • GPS & Various antennas
  • 2 drop tanks
  • HARM

A couple of thoughts on this. For one thing, it’s a nice modern alternative to the original Monogram which I think was released in the early 1980s, which meant a lack of details and raised panel lines. However, my experience with Kinetic’s F-16 kit hasn’t been that great. It suffers from uneven details, a weird oily surface that remains after a good soap scrubbing and a fair bit of fitting problems. Definitely not a shake and bake kit. I also notice the Prowler comes with clear canopies. The real ones are brown/gold tinted. I’m sure that’s hard to replicate though.

I really hope Kinetic has fixed these issues with this latest release. I really like the Prowler but I think I’ll wait for more reviews before taking the plunge.
