Day 2: Shenzhen

So today we did more touristy stuff. The first half was spent going through the standard tourist traps like a Jade center and a TCM center. Yes, it was a waste of time.

Then we visited the kitschy but still impressive Window of the World. Guess I can tell the kids we went to Europe, Africa, both Americas and the majority of Asia haha.

I’ve packed my bags and ready to go…

I’m leaving on a jetplane… going to be back again…

Family outing time! Bringing the kids and Mrs. Rocket Punch for a short trip to Shenzhen, Macau and Hong Kong. Yes yes, toy heaven… But it looks like I won’t get a chance to visit the toy/hobby shops in Hong Kong. On a group tour with Mrs. Rocket Punch’s parents and siblings. BIG family outing. Noisy as heck too.

On the Workbench

I’ve had this partially snapfitted for a while now. Figured I’d finish it tonight. This is the Geno Saurer from Kotobukiya’s Zoids HMM line.

Its claws are really (really) sharp and is fragile as hell. The cockpit and Zoids Core come as a connected unit and is for some reason only friction-fitted to the chest. Move the arms and it’ll fall off. Sigh. I left out the vents on the legs just in case if I ever want to paint this thing.

All complaints aside, it’s yet another impressive entry to the line.

MSA-003 Nemo Custom

Kit Info
Manufacturer: Bandai
Scale: 1/100
Media: Injection Plastic

OK… Plamo’s ‘Build that Shelf Queen maggot!’ groupbuild is now up. 3 months time limit. This is ONE of my shelf queens since 2008 (wow, 3 years). :P This was supposed to be my entry for Indonesia’s Bandai competition. Oh well. Now I have 3 months to finish this or the Gunny will have my ass.

The parachute pack is from the MG Hyaku-Shiki. And the idea is the Nemo will be posed doing a HALO jump with some sort of a weapon strapped to it. First up some minor mods:

I enlarged the sensor on the head with plastic strips

I cut grooves on the upper legs so the Nemo’s legs can be posed wider apart.

I also cut a groove on the waist to allow the kit to bend over more.

My Nemo of course needs a big gun. I decided to arm it with a beam rifle from Ako Hobby.

The rifle will be fitted to the front parachute pack. As a one-off Nemo Custom design, I figure a KISS approach is fine.

A minor modification I did was to cut a groove so the grip can be folded.

The main parachute pack only friction fits onto the Nemo so I had to figure out some way to attach it more securely. Again, a KISS approach with square plastic rods.

And… this is the pose I’ve decided on.

Some more minor detailing soon. Not planning to overdo though.

On the Workbench

In between mucking about with putty and paint, I try to snapfit as many kits as possible. One is to fill up my (so far) empty display shelves. Another is reducing the stash is always good: less complaints and more room for new stuff! Hahahaha

This is the Kotobukiya HMM Molga. Each box comes with 2 units with this one having the option of a repair bay on the tail or a pair of swiveling guns. Guess which version this is. :D

Typical of Kotobukiya’s HMM kits, this one is highly detailed and has a ton of parts, which means many many sprue cut marks.

OutRun by SEGA

This sure brings back memories. I wasted a lot of time on this game whenever I’m back in Jakarta for my school holidays (at this time, arcade games were illegal in Singapore). I mean come on… it’s a convertible Ferrari Testarossa! With a blond chick riding shotgun! FWOOOOOH!

For the record, I could finish this game. My route was: left, left, left, left, left. If I remember correctly, the ending was the driver being tossed in the air and not coming back down… :D

Kotobukiya HMM Godos

Kotobukiya is set to release Godos, the Helic Republic’s grunt unit in November @ 4,200 yen. Expensive for such a small-sized Zoid, but I like the updated looks without resorting to drastically changing from the original kit (unlike say, the Cannon Tortoise). It’s going to come with different weapon options too, with either twin cannons or a larger single cannon.

Anyways, yet another must buy for me. I’m a Zoid slut after all.
