The Subject
The SAFS (Super Armored Fighting Suit) is the standard powered suit deployed by the mercenary forces. It replaces the original AFS (Armored Fighting Suit) and forms the basis for numerous variations such as the Fireball, Raccoon and Rapoon.

The Kit
This kit was released in 2010. It has seen a few re-releases with only a change in markings. Like all Wave injection kits, the plastic is rather soft although the details are quite sharp. Other details I note:

- The kit comes in 130 or so medium gray parts
- The joints and the hoses are made from polycap material so there is (limited) poseability
- There is an open cockpit option with a pilot head included
- Assembly guide is a booklet type
- The decal sheet offers multiple options as usual and is nicely printed

All in all, the usual Wave Ma.K product. Based on experience, the fit will be so-so and the limbs will be slightly loose even with the use of polycaps.

The Build
While re-arranging my stash, I found a few kits in various stages of finishing and this kit was one of them. The kit is advertised as snapfit. As per usual with Wave kits though, cement helps greatly: do not expect Bandai levels of engineering here. It’s also advertised as poseable and comes with polycaps for the joints but these are not stiff like what you get from Bandai. The range of poseability is very limited and loosen quite quickly.

The joint covers are also made from polycap material which do not paint well so in the end I decided on a pose, cemented everything in place, then replaced the joint covers with ones made from epoxy putty.

Colors & MarkingsI gave the kit a ground-based 2-tone brown color scheme and right from the beginning, I had a decal sheet with eyes that I wanted to use on it. Other than that, I just took markings from some random Gundam and Ma.k sheets I had.

Finishing
The kit went through my usual sponge chipping before an overall wash of AK Interactive Abteilung Starship Filth wash. Spot fading and streaks were also added with gray, white and buff colored oil paints. The legs received slightly heavier weathering although overall, I think I’ve kept everything quite light.

As for the base, I had the idea to have some logs lying around to create some visual interest but the result didn’t look right to me. It’s something I need to improve on for my next build. Anyway, I’m calling this one done.
