Stonewell/Bellcom VF-1S Valkyrie

Kit Info
Manufacturer: Hasegawa
Scale: 1/72
Media: Injection Plastic

I have a stash of VF-1s in my collection so 1 night I decided to just start on one. This will be Roy Focker’s VF-1S Valkyrie. I’m planning to do this kit inflight which means covering up all the landing gear doors.

First up, like an aicraft kit, the cockpit needs to be done. Also like my aircraft projects, it’s all a simple matter of grey for the main parts, black grey for the control panels and brown for the ejection seat cushion. The main MFD on the front control panel is transparent green painted over grey. I left the side mirrors around the control panel as grey. Then everything was given a drybrush of light grey with my trusty color pencil.

Hasegawa’s VF-1 kit is based on how it looked in the movie Macross: Do You Remember Love. In the Macross TV series, The VF-1S clearly has a HUD which the movie version does not. I decided to add a scratchbuilt HUD based on some screenshots I found. I made the HUD by cutting a battery blister pack intot he proper shape and gluing to the glare shield with white PVA glue.

The cockpit tub doesn’t fit properly into the fuselage. Some cutting and sanding is required before the 2 fuselage halves can close properly.

Focker himself will be a resin figure from Studio Starforge. It’s nicely casted although it’s not a dropin fito the cockpit. After some careful sanding and cutting however, Focker fits fine although if you looked carefully, he doesn’t have legs. Thems the breaks I guess.

Next I tackle the front landing gear. The doors have actuators molded onto them that were cut off. Some sanding was also required so they will fit properly into the gearbay. I glued small strips of styrene across the gearbay so the doors won’t fall in. I then glued the 3 doors together with styrene before carefully plonking it into the gearbay. It’s not perfect, but it’ll do.

1/100 Akohobby RMS-154 Refined Barzam conversion

The Mecha
The RMS-154 Barzam is a mass production mobile suit based on the RX-178 Gundam Mk. II. It was introduced in UC 0088 but was not a successful design and was only produced in limited numbers.

The Refined Barzam is a variant of the RMS-154 which appears as a bridge between the Barzam and the Gundam Mk. II. It is armed with the weapons from the Gundam Mk. II, with the exception of the addition of a grenade launcher for the beam rifle. It also mounts the Gundam Mk. II’s backpack and shield.
