RIP : Albert Uderzo (1927 – 2020)

Before I knew of the existence of American comics, there was Tintin and Asterix. Albert Underzo is the Frenchman who drew all the Asterix comics from my childhood.

From Asterix the Gaul to Asterix and the Magic Carpet, these 28 volumes formed an indelible part of my childhood and made me unconsciously learn about European culture (the French banquets, the Swiss obsession with cheese and the British love of tea) and history (the Roman and Egyptian Empires). Asterix has had such an impact that even today I’m still using phrases from it.

Thank you sir for my childhood, bonne nuit et au revoir.
